Osaka : Soba Akari | 手打ちそば星

17th July 2013.
Osaka, Japan.
I was alone in Dotonbori which extremely quiet in the afternoon. Most of the shops seemed closed as well. After doing a bit of food-seeking on tabelog, I found Soba Akari, located just a short walk from Kaneyoshi Ryokan where I was staying.

Since I had several ramen for the past few days, I was looking for something lighter and Soba Akari fits the bill. It is a small soba shop, ran by a friendly pair of elderly folks. Even though there was no English menu, the lady was patient enough to try to explain to me their house speciality.

I went for the most simplest of dish of their menu, the plain Buckwheat Soba served with classic condiments such as the dipping sauce, wasabi and radish, etc. Soba Akari makes their own soba and unlike the machine-made ones, the texture is slightly more chewy and varied. It was a simple but beautiful soba lunch and an affordable one too.
