Back to Skyve | Back for Spicy Kalbi

19th December 2013.
I was back at Skyve Wine Bistro for a dinner as I was quite impressed by the food I had at a tasting there months ago. As I had some Entertainer 1-for-1 main course vouchers, I made a re-visit along with some friends.

Without hesitation, I went for the Spicy Kalbi Beef Short Ribs (36++ SGD) sous vide short ribs, spicy kalbi glaze, sauteed brocollini, crispy root vegetable ribbons. It was as good as I remembered it from the tasting. The meat was very tender and the, sticky, mildly sweet and spicy glaze went very well with the short ribs. I also enjoyed the root vegetable ribbons although my friends preferred something more substantial like French fries.

Other dishes that we tried include the Grilled Beef Rossini (40++ SGD), beef tenderloin wrapped with smoked bacon, wild mushrooms ragout, truffle and potato mash, baby asparagus, veal jus

as well as the Sous Vide Pork (36++SGD), pork shoulder braised in root beer and spice, savoury crackling skin, pineapple and pomegranate salsa and plum salt. Of the three main courses, the Spicy Kalbi Beef Short Ribs remained to be my favourite. I though the Grilled Beef Rossini was rather ordinary and the meat’s texture was a bit inconsistent, with some parts sinewy and other parts spot-on tender.
Skyve Wine Bistro ran out of oysters during our dinner visit and do indicate for plain water instead of the still and sparkling here if you are on a budget.
