Double Bay Restaurant and Bar - Crispy Australian Barramundi

18th February 2011. Written by Xin Li. Located at Raffles City and named after the luxurious waterfront suburb in Sydney is the Double Bay Australian Restaurant and Bar which serves Australian cuisine. The restaurant is a partner of ThaiExpress, New York New York, Shokudo Concepts, Xin Wang Hong Kong Café and Kiseki Japanese Buffet.

Double Bay Restaurant and Bar - Crispy Australian Barramundi

Recommended by Vanilla & Breakfast for their brunch, I decided to head down to Double Bay Restaurant and Bar to try their mains instead of their brunch. The restaurant is located in a glassed cladded extension of the Raffles City complex with views of the historic Raffles Hotel across the road, making it a nice place to enjoy coffee and have tea with friends.

Double Bay Restaurant and Bar - Crispy Australian Barramundi

I had the Crispy Australian Barramundi for 24.90++ SGD, served with vongole, new baby potatoes and buttered leeks. The dish was served with an extra plate to discard the clam shells. The fish was succulent and crispy. However, all that crispiness was lost as it was sitting in a pool of yellow buttery sauce as they start eating it. Overall, I felt that it was decent but not mind-blowing.

Double Bay Restaurant and Bar - Double Bay Warm Apple Pie with Ice Cream

For dessert, I decided to satisfy my craving for some apple dessert by ordering the Double Bay Warm Apple Pie with Ice Cream (11.90++ SGD) which in my humble opinion was a pure disappointment. The apples lacked the fragrance I am looking for and it could help with a bit of cinnamon or be more caramelized. The pastry was too soft and slightly soggy. Service was not intrusive but friendly and efficient.

  1. Before I read your post, I looked at the picture of the barramundi and thought, so you're serving a crispy fish in a bed of sauce, wouldn't that completely defeat the purpose of having a crispy skin in the first place.

  2. precisely! should have put the fish on the given plate instead of the clam shells.
