After having dinner at Black Sheep Café, we headed for Benten at Iluma, Terence, Marcus, Justin and Wei Long wanted to binge on the $38.80 giant tub initially but the queue was simply too long so we headed for NYDC instead.
NYDC reminds me of a mixture of Billy Bombers and Swensens. The place isn’t too crowded and packed like Swensens downstairs.
NYDC's Mudpies are one of their signature items along with their cakes such as Boo Boo, Big-O etc so most of us had this for dessert, a combination of cake and ice cream!
Jedi Mudster ($10.95)
“Double Chocolate Chip and Macademia Nut Ice Cream with Oreo base with layers of homemade cookie chunks in between. Complete with chocolate fudge sauce and whipped cream.”

Terence exclaimed that it “really melts in your mouth” when he had this. Terence and Marcus also commented that there is something that tasted like honey crunch in the mudpie.
Cookie Monster Mudpie ($10.95)
“Double Chocolate Chip and Mocha Almond Fudge ice-cream with lots of cookie chunks nestled on an Oreo cookie crust with chocolate fudge sauce and whipped cream.”

Justin had this. Marcus commented that it looks like an inverted version of the Jedi Mudster.
Generally, the feedback for the mudpie was neither great nor bad. They felt it was just okay to slightly better than okay. I felt that it was because for $10.95++ per slice, it was rather expensive.

Spiked Affagato ($5.80)
“Velvety French Vanilla ice-cream doused in a shot of freshly brewed espresso and lavishly dressed with Baileys. Simply the best!”

The ice cream was good. The liquor taste however was quite strong for me (not their fault, it said “lavishly dressed with Baileys”). I didn’t manage to finish this affagato. Each mouthful was packed with hot and cold sensation until the vanilla ice cream melt. It was almost gone when the affagato was served. If you are into liquor, this should be fine.
While the service was alright, there was a mistake in the receipt, but it was rectified without much issue.
They also offer lunch sets.

*Updated the prices of the mudpies, they were $10.95 instead of $10.45 (10/05/10)

the giant benten tub - I've seen it, yet to conquer it. looks like an awesome challange and a tub full of goodness. do let me know if you guys tackle it! :D
ReplyDeletelol, I myself is not prepared to tackle one that night especially after a sinful dinner of duck liver, cheese and duck confit!
ReplyDeleteI bet they will find someday to conquer it when Benten is less crowded.
