Taipei | Eighty Eight Tea Ribansyo (八拾捌茶輪番所)

Back here after a year.
I am reminded time flies and change is inevitable.

Eighty Eight Tea Ribansyo is located near Ximending Station just south of the famous Red House. The tea house is housed in a Japanese style structure complete with tatami seating. I had really good memories of it when I visited Taipei in 2015.

I got to know of this place through Ching Kai. The tea house was a lively, cosy place to enjoy tea and snacks to pair with the tea. I still remember there was a friendly lady named Zhang Yu Ting who would patiently guide and educate visitors on every aspects of tea drinking.

Fast forward to December 2016, I finally got the chance to bring my mum to this place where I had good memories. But the place has changed.

The friendly people, the liveliness are gone. The presentation, standards of the snacks sets to pair with the tea have dropped and the price has increased from 120 to 250 TWD. The lady who served our tea was robotic and impatient to go through about how to enjoy the tea. The Honey Longan drink which my mum had tasted only of honey. The atmosphere has transformed.

The quaint wooden structure is all that is left of the now soulless tea house.

Farewell Eighty Eight Tea Ribansyo.
