A Japanese Evening at 100AM : Ramen Keisuke Tori King & Tsujiri

Ramen Keisuke Tori King

5th April 2013.
I am really lucky to have Muthu around during those work-packed weeks leading up to final submission. We met at the rather new 100AM (also known as Amara Shopping Centre) which received a $32m facelift since 2010 to hunt down a high-rated ramen restaurant: Ramen Keisuke Tori King.

I had a rather poor experience with the a Keisuke restaurant in Kanazawa and being a chicken ramen, I was afraid this would be a disappointment. Thankfully that was not the case. The ramen restaurant was decorated in your stereotypical “Japanese” décor with vintage posters featuring Japanese beer and kimono cladded ladies to give that down-to-earth 1950s-1960s Japan street feel and the crowded restaurant does makes it felt like some bustling street.

I ordered the Tori King Ramen with Flavored Egg (13.90 SGD) and it was pretty decent. Yew Ann didn’t opt for less oil which proved to a bit too much for him as he dug in more and more. As for me, the ramen was just right with less chicken oil. The broth was rich and flavorful and the noodles were spot on with its springy texture. The chicken however I felt was a damper, it was just ordinary chicken. The eggs on the other hand was divine with that molten center, it brought back good ramen memories I had in Japan.

TSUJIRI (つじり茶屋)

Tsujiri

After some ramen, he headed downstairs to a matcha café named Tsujiri. Tsujiri, is a tea café that originates from the famous green-tea growing region of Uji in Kyoto, Japan. It has a long history dating back to the Edo Period and it has been featured on Chubby Hubby in January this year.

Tsujiri

Like Maccha House, Tsujiri offers quality matcha ice cream, we had their Cake Parfait (7.50 SGD, about 600 Yen?). The portions are undeniably petite but the quality more than makes up for it. The ice cream was rich in matcha and tasted just like the ones I had in Uji, Kyoto. Semi-sweet azuki beans were being served alongside the thick-gelato like matcha ice cream and the cake was pretty decent too.
