Architecture students are a stressed up lot of people, tackling deadlines that change in a whim and dealing with the unpredictable almost every day means we really need somewhere to soothe our nerves (nearby)
Thankfully, 1 Rochester has been able to do just that. By re-introducing 1 Caramel as a student friendly cafe, it is almost irresistible to pamper ourselves at its relaxing lounge-like environment surrounded by an envelope of greenery. Further more additional discounts from Standard Chartered Cards and for NUS students make it a really sweet deal.
Just weeks after an exclusive chocolate workshop, I found myself back at the 1 Rochester again with my studio. My tutor enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and found it quite suitable for a debriefing session after final critique. I hope you also enjoyed the tasty chocolate recipes that Vinleon has posted before Valentines' Day ;)
Forward to the re-visit, I had the opportunity to indulge in the
1-Caramel Baked Alaska,
Combination of homemade chunky strawberry and vanilla Madagascar ice-cream coated with rhum Italian meringue on top of a nutty chocolate brownie (14.00++ SGD), a decadent and delicious dessert with a pleasing contrast of hot and cold flavours. Beyond the slightly crispy flambeed meringue layer is a chilled rich ice cream layer.
You could also sample the various desserts 1 Caramel has to offer with the
1-Caramel Assiette (16-24++ SGD)
We also get to sample other sweets on the menu including a seasonal special, the tasty
Churros with a rich chocolate dip. We cleared it almost instantly.
The
Big Breakfast Platter,
your choice of poached, fried or scrambled egg with German sausage, bacon, roast tomato, baked beans, spinach, home fries and toasted country bread (20++ SGD) was quite filling, I enjoyed the nicely roasted potatoes.
