22nd September 2011. Written by Xin Li.
I initially wanted to post about afternoon tea in Amsterdam...but not today.
It was only two days ago in Ward 13C, when my uncle was still able to sit and chat with us even though he was frail and has become much thinner than I remembered him to be. He seemed to exert a lot of energy for each breath and the nurse interrupted him occasionally to remind him to speak less during the visit on Sunday.
Fighting against cancer of the lungs and stomach for the past few months has been a painful process. Just yesterday night, he fell into a stage of coma and I was hoping so much that he would open his eyes and chat with us again.
Although we haven’t spent much time together, he has been very nice to me, I remember when he would look at my drawings or sayang me when I was child. I am afraid that I would not have the chance to sketch him again. This last sketch of him is dedicated to him, a good and caring uncle who will be dearly missed.
