Paris, FranceBrasserie Le Latin is located in the Latin Quarter opposite the Notre Dame. The restaurant has a nice café-like décor and we are tempted by its 17 Euros Prix-fixe 3-course menu despite the number of tourists around the restaurant.
Ordinary and dry baguette were being served before your dishes were served.
My younger brother had the Goat Cheese Salad, the goat cheese were warm and creamy. Taste-wise, I have no idea, I didn’t get to try it.
I had the Soupe a l’oignon, Onion Soup. It was too salty and lacks any fragrance of caramelized onion and has too much starch in it.
Mains were served moments after the appetizers, my younger brother’s Kebab looked miserable.
I had the Beef Bourguignon, beef stew. Once again, it’s a little high on the sodium chloride ladder and the beef chunks are anything but tender. It wasn’t as hearty as I would expect it to be. In short, another disappointment.
For dessert, I had the Crème Brulee. As you could see, it’s visibly burnt. However, it turned out to be the saving grace for the night’s dinner. It was satisfying but it could be much better if they had control the fire better.
Brasserie Le Latin is one of those many tourist restaurants around Latin Quarter. Contrary to popular beliefs, the prix-fixe menus there are quite worthwhile (15-20 Euros for 3 courses) compared to a main course for 15 Euros. However, you might get a disappointing experience like I did in Le Latin. I prefer a sandwich from Monoprix or just have one good Duck Confit at a non-touristy café anytime. On the other hand, Le Latin could be an isolated case and a case of bad luck for me.
