Group Therapy Cafe : Where Friends Gather

Group Therapy - Interior

4th September 2011. Written by Xin Li.
This little, cozy café located on the upper floor of a shophouse in Duxton has been in our makan radars for a while after seeing those tantalizing posts by other food blogs. And when Loraine came back from Netherlands (at last!) a few of us decided to gather there for a food and coffee.

Group Therapy - Food Bloggers

It was an informal gathering of food bloggers such as Peter from YummyformyTumTum (a catchy name), Goh and Fen from Indulgence After Workout, my partners in the4Moose (Vinleon and Mu Yao) and the star of the day, Loraine of Hungry Trotting Couple.

Group Therapy - Sgt. Mu Yao giving a Lecture on Food

In the world of psychology, Group Therapy is “a form of psychotherapy in which one or more therapists treat a small group of clients together as a group.” (Wikipedia). In this case, the therapy is gourmet therapy of food and drinks and lots of chatting.

'Group

Travel dominated the conversations, Loraine had plenty of interesting stuff on Egypt (as well as Netherlands and France) on her blog, Goh & Fen has just been to Europe and Peter has just came back from his travel in Europe including Spain.

Group Therapy - Stacked Pancakes with Maple Syrup and Berries

I had a special of the day, the Stacked Pancakes with Maple Syrup and Berries (15.00+ SGD). The pancakes are delightfully moist (not soggy despite being served with maple syrup beforehand) and I found it just right, not too sweet or too floury. The portion is quite generous too.

Group Therapy - Quiche with Salad and Chips

Vinleon had the Quiche with Salad and Chips (11.00+ SGD). He seemed unsatisfied with the portion though. The quiche was creamy and flavorful. Rather decent despite its appearance.

Group Therapy - Tuna Melt Panini

Mu Yao had the Tuna Melt Panini (14.00+ SGD). I love the couscous, probably because it reminded me of my trip to Europe. The couscous had pineapples added to it, giving it a tangy flavor. The Panini was decent. The tuna seemed to complement the cheese quite well. The bread could have been better.

Group Therapy - Raine

Loraine had a special Green Eggs with Ham (23.00+ SGD). Rather expensive in my opinion. The green scrambled eggs had sage added to it, giving it an herbal, earthy flavor. The ham reminded me of honey baked ham we had during Christmas.

Group Therapy - Green Eggs with Ham

The bread is disappointing. The edge of the bread, which is tougher, was given instead of the center where you get the chewy and fluffy bit of the bread.

Group Therapy - Thick Toast with Poached Eggs and Ham

Peter had the Thick Toast with Poached Eggs and Ham (12.00+ SGD). The toast had a center dug out and in its place was ham, melted cheese and poached eggs with a huge serving of hollandaise sauce. It was good at the start but it starts to get heavy on the palate towards the end as the combination of egg yolk, melted cheese and hollandaise sauce proved to be too creamy for our taste.

Group Therapy - Mini Beef Sliders

Group Therapy - Carrot Cake

Goh and Fen had the Mini Beef Sliders (18.00+ SGD) and Carrot Cake (8.50+ SGD).

Group Therapy - Loves Coffee

Along with our food, we also had some coffee and tea. I love to have cappuccino for my breakfast or a good English Breakfast, Sencha or Earl Grey. If you have noticed, the + is only for the 10% service charge.

Group Therapy - Brunch

Prices at Group Therapy Café is not exactly cheap for certain items. The ambience is great though.

Group Therapy - Coffee Moose

The casual and laid-back atmosphere of the café (together with their friendly and outgoing staff) makes it a perfect place for a gathering of friends.

Group Therapy - Book Shelves

After brunch, why not hop to Flor for some really good classic cakes?

  1. love your post Xinli! Thanks! :) I really had a great time meeting you and your friends. :) And i do agree that the green eggs and ham was in the expensive side and the worse thing is...giving me the edge of the bread for that price. :) haha. Coffee is great though. :) Till my next Singapore hop off! :)
