The Shinjiro Ramen is based on Tokyo’s ramen jiro which is characterized by its enormous portions. The ramen goes for quantity rather than quality as it was intended to feed hungry but budget-conscious diners.
Like how many reviews have described a bowl of ramen jiro, the Shinjiro Ramen (13.00++ SGD) was intimidating and unrefined. It was topped with heaps of crunchy cabbages, corn kernels, bean sprouts and a few cha shu slices. The chashu was a little dry and too salty for my liking and I didn’t enjoy the rather flat tasting soup base or the texture of the thick noodles.
All this make it sounded like a bad bowl of ramen which was my initial perception until I read how did this style of ramen came about then I came to appreciate and understand the shinjiro ramen. It was not out to please the taste buds but rather to feed the hungry diners who wishes to stretch their budget. The ramen was designed with a context in mind.
Service was very efficient and approachable. For more a second opinion, you could refer to ieatishootipost.
