Fukuoka, Japan
I happened to dig out some old photos. Here are some photos that I took during my maiden trip to Fukuoka, Japan.
For a person who did not travel for more than five years then, the sight of mountains, towering coniferous trees and deep, blue ocean without horizon were particularly memorable.
The trip marked was my last flight with Singapore Airlines. I haven’t got a chance to fly with our national carrier since. On a side note, the airline is offering some really attractive fares to Tokyo and Bangkok at the moment.
Top marks have to be given for the service. The air stewardesses were very friendly and professional. The individual entertainment system was awesome and the flight was a very comfortable one.
I wonder things have changed today.
It was an exchange program with the Kyushu High School.
Fukuoka, a product of a fusion of the castle town of Fukuoka and the port city of Hakata in 1889 is one of Japan’s ten most populated cities and Kyushu’s largest.
Due to its close proximity to the Asian mainland, the city had been an important harbour city for many centuries and hence bears the brunt of the Mongol invasion forces as they picked it as their landing point in the 13th century.
Part of the exchange program involved working with the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum.
The school and our lodging are located in the Kashii area of Fukuoka.
