Alley Bar is located at the Emerald area of Orchard, the quaint side of Orchard but no less crowded. The bar was so named as it was located in an alleyway between two shop houses and transformed into a stylish bar with a high ceiling. Furnished with a black terrazzo bar and hanging lamps, interior of Alley Bar has an old world feeling with a contemporary twist.
While Jia Yao and Min Zhe satisfy their craving for alcohol, I settled for a Vanilla Crème Brulee (8.00++ SGD). The portion was quite big for the price I am paying for. The crème brulee wasn’t as smooth and creamy as I prefer it to be, as its texture resembles more of a pudding. The custard has a heavier egg flavor and the sugar isn’t evenly caramelized throughout. Parts of the burnt sugar remained as caramel syrup.
However, it is good to know that the crème brulee uses real vanilla instead of vanilla flavoring as observed in the specks of vanilla in the custard.
Finally, while the bar has a pleasant and classy ambience, I find the interior a little too small, but there are outdoor seats available. Jia Yao felt that the prices here are rather steep.
Apparently, from time to time there will be live performances to enjoy and there are quite a few promotions going on. The Happy Hour which last from 5 pm to 9 pm daily feature standard house pours for 5.50 nett SGD and 9.90 nett SGD for draught beers.
