Photographs and Images from Littered with Books.
It was sad to see Books Actually leave Club Street during a recent visit to the area. However, I am pleasant to discover a new find, that is Littered With Books. This cozy little bookshop is located in a two-storey shophouse along Duxton Road, very near Flor Patisserie (cakes anyone?)
The staff at Littered With Books were very friendly and their warm hospitality made my day during my visit to the bookstore on a rainy day.
The book shop sells a rather wide variety of books from cook books by Jamie Oliver to the Federal Papers and books by Haruki Murakami. My pick would be Singapore Shophouse by Julian Davison, a comprehensive guide and study into the shophouses in Singapore across the ages.
On the topic of shophouses, you must check out the bookshop’s interior, I like how the beams of the mezzanine level were preserved and the floor boards removed to reveal the skeleton of the structure. It gives you a peak into a building’s ‘internal organs’ (in layman terms, how things work).
There was this massive book about Melaka with awesome photographs. The book itself cost more than 100 SGD and has limited copies only. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to recall the actually title of the book. I believe is something like a Day in Melaka.
The second level is where the cookbooks and travel books are. There are quite a few interesting travel guides. I recalled one of them warned not to book a hotel that promised “a once in a lifetime experience”.
Besides books, the store also sells a few antique maps and prints. If you are feeling peckish, Flor Patisserie is just next door ;)
