Eating Cheap with Hachi Tei

Hachi Tei - Interior

No plus plus! That definitely gets Hachi Tei into the list of cheap eats. The couple-run family restaurant located opposite the Thian Hock Keng Temple used to serve Japanese meals in China Square.

Hachi Tei - Menu

It was my second time visiting this restaurant. Set meals cost only 10.00 to 20.00 SGD nett. I had the Cha Soba Set (10.00 nett SGD), which includes a serving of soba with shreds of seaweed, a slice of fruit, 4 pieces of maki sushi, two cubes for fried tofu and a bowl of miso soup.

The soba was quite tasty together with the dip (I thought it was buckwheat soba rather than cha soba though) and I enjoyed the maki sushi which comes with rather generous amount of ingredients. The meal was filling enough and green tea was complimentary.

The food might not be mind-blowing but it was decent and unpretentious. Furthermore, I also enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere that Hachi Tei provides.

  1. Following your previous post I went down to look for this place but to no avail. Then I realized I went to Telok Ayer Road.
