I got a piece of sirloin steak two days ago. It was left over from a mini-multi-course dinner (similar to the National Day Luncheon) I made for my sister who celebrated her birthday just two days ago.
This is was the beef item that I prepared for her, except that instead of salad, I used potatoes as sides, quite a simple dish without the need to procure a lot of ingredients at great expense (the beef is already not cheap) . I called it Sirloin Steak with Portobello Mushroom Sauce.
My sister, dad, brother and I enjoyed this dish. It consisted of grilled sirloin beef, seasoned with black pepper and sea salt till medium, medium rare. I prefer medium.
Then with some of the leftover juice from the grilling, I sautéed mini Portobello mushrooms (a box of 9-12 would cost around 4 SGD), onions, garlic and some butter and oil. Once it turned golden brown, I added some cream and let it reduced a little and turn slightly brown.
Once done, I poured it over the steak and it is ready to be served. The sauce could be served separately as well.
This was done within 25 minutes together with the cutting of the onions and mushrooms. The beef has to be at room temperature before cooking. I got the salad from the supermarket.
