Our hotel was located at Tsim Sha Tsui and on our last day in Hong Kong, thankfully a sunny one, we decided to spend our remaining time at TST (the short form for Tsim Sha Tsui).
Tsim Sha Tsui is well-known as a shoppers’ paradise (for the bigger wallets) and its myriad of hotels and sometimes blogs and guides would call Tsim Sha Tsui as a tourist trap.
The Peninsula Hotel.
But that is not stopping me from walking around and taking in sights. My favourite part of this walking trip would be the Avenue of Stars, nothing related to the stars but rather the view of Victoria Harbour with the skyline of Hong Kong Island at the other end. Stunning view, I wish I could stay longer. I heard that there is a light show around 7-8pm every night. Too bad I missed that.
The International Financial Centre and Sheung Wan Hong Kong - Macau Ferry Terminal can be seen here.
The Peak, Bank of China Tower, HSBC Main Building can be seen here and the iconic Star Ferry at the foreground (it is very cheap to travel on the star ferry!).
The whole area is very big, you probably need more than 2 days to explore and I believe that there would always be something that you might overlook even if you have walked through it once. If I have to refer to an artwork to illustrate what I feel about Tsim Sha Tsui and Hong Kong at large, I think Monet’s Rouen Cathedral Series is the best example, it might be the same subject, but at different times of the day or year, the cathedral remains remarkably unfamiliar with a new perspective.
Last but not least for this post, if not for the army, I wouldn’t think much about this. My NS friends burst out laughing after seeing this photo below.
