Okay Fare with ISS Catering

5th June 2010. Written by Xin Li.

ISS Catering has been in the industry for a long time and since their menu fits our budget, Aw Yong and I decided to choose ISS Catering Services for his 21st birthday. We didn’t want Neo Garden because it out of 10 events, at least 5-6 will have Neo Garden. Other common caterers are like Pang Catering (army guys should know), Kriston or Rasel (we wanted Rasel at first, but it was beyond our budget)

In the process of searching for a caterer, I am amazed by how many caterers are out there, we were spoiled for choices. Bibik, Thomson, Mum’s Kitchen, Chili Padi, Marmalade at Home and the list goes on and on.

This post is more of a pictorial than a review.

What drew us to pick ISS Catering is their menu which seemed to offer some non-mainstream items. Instead of the usual fried chicken, bee hoon, chocolate éclairs, mixed vegetables, they have Chicken Ala King or Cajun fish on their lower-priced menus. We normally find the more fanciful items on menus above fifteen dollars per person.

For the 12 SGD per pax Buffet, we had the:

ISS Catering - Chicken a la King

Chicken Ala King - Enough flavour.

Indonesian Chicken Rendang (not photographed). Enjoyed this.

Fried Cajun Fish Fillet (not photographed) is the weakest item, had it been kept dry and retained its crispiness, this dish would have been a nice snack.

ISS Catering - Fish Fillet with Tomato Concasse

Fish Fillet with Tomato Concasse. I enjoyed this alot.

ISS Catering - Mapo Tofu

Mapo Tofu with Minced Chicken. Spicy stuff. Tried abit and stopped.

ISS Catering - Nai Chye with Oyster Sauce

Nai Chye with Oyster Sauce - How can a buffet not have veggies? And here is some crunchy vegetables with oyster sauce. Could do with abit more flavour.

ISS Catering - Potato Croquettes

Potato Croquette - This snack was a disappointing, too moist, lack the crispy and warm exterior I was craving for. This would have been a very good snack had it been kept dry.

ISS Catering - Penang Char Kway Teow

Penang Char Kway Teow - A staple dish if you don't want rice. For this buffet, the item was not cleared as quickly as the Yangzhou Fried Rice.

ISS Catering - Yang Chow Fried Rice

Yang Chow Fried Rice a staple dish. Fool-proof item for buffets.

Almond Longan Jelly (not photographed.)
The dessert was served in cups.

Orange Cordial

I enjoyed the Fish Fillet with Tomato Concasse the most.

Generally, I will say the food is just okay.

  2. haha and most of the time it is the same few stuff, fried rice, bee hoon, chocolate eclair, cereal prawns or fried fish, mixed vegetables (curry or oyster sauce or cauliflower), almond and longan or cocktail etc

  3. lol and the choux pastry in the chocolate eclairs or cream puffs are usually unsatisfactory! yup i think iss catering is okay, but pines food services is better imo, you could consider hiring them if you're looking for a caterer next time :D
