Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan.
My Japanese gave me a treat at Umihe Izakaya on my last night in Sapporo. It is a rather crowded izakaya located on the second floor of a building in the Susukino area of Sapporo. It serves various kinds of Japanese classic dishes as well as a number of Hokkaido signatures such as their Ramen Salad which is a first for me. Surprisingly, the interesting mix of seaweed, corn kernels, greens, tomatoes, chunks of chicken, wafu dressing, mayonnaise and ramen was rather delicious.
We also had some tasty grilled beef and fresh sashimi. I was told that the squid was prepared with the liver left aside as a proof of freshness. I foolishly ate it as well.
My favourite dish got to be the huge, fresh scallop simply grilled with butter. This is by far one of my best scallop dishes so far together with Kaixo’s scallops.
Finally, we ended with a rich chocolate cake, kind of like a Manhattan Fish Market mudpie but resembles a Lava Cake.
