I made some scones today according to a recipe on BBC Food here. It was my first time and I thought it turned out okay for me and my mum and sister thought I got it from somewhere. The crust was warm and crispy and the interior was moist and slightly chewy and its not expensive to make them (compared to buying them).
Four Leaves sells them at 3.30 SGD for 4 and Ritz Carlton's Chihuly Lounge sells it at 9.90 SGD for 2 along with 3 kinds of fruit preserves from Hediard and some clotted cream.
The key to enjoying scones I guess.....is to have a really good and appropriate marmalade and have it straight out of the oven. To make it even better, have some clotted cream and really good tea.
If you are looking for clotted cream in Singapore, there are 2 ways to get it, one you buy scones from a hotel and they give it to you (i.e Ritz Carlton's Chihuly Lounge) or just go to Cold Storage or Jasons Marketplace or 360 Marketplace where you can find a tub (500 ml?) of clotted cream for 9-15 SGD.
