London, United Kingdom.
Pleasant English gardens, comfortable beds, gorgeous setting for breakfast with a bit of historical charm is what the Glenlyn offers.
Housed in a four large Victorian terraced houses, the Glenlyn Bed and Breakfast offers you an escape from bustling London without being out of reach of the city’s major sights. The guesthouse is only a walk away from Woodside Park Tube Station and connects to Central London within half an hour.
The charming and elegant Victorian building is located in Finchley, a district in Barnet in Greater London. While it may not be a famous sightseeing area, it also means it has significantly less tourists and there are a few sights in the area that you could check out too, such as the Church of St Mary dating back to 1270.
We got a Twin Room (Room 5, 75 GBP per night) which has a view of the gardens at the back of the guesthouse. The room was about 20-25 meters square.
It comes with complimentary coffee and tea and a 32” flat screen LCD television that you could watch the Antique Roadshow, a history documentary or a debate on BBC if you wish.
The beds are comfortable and toilets are fine, nothing to complain about.
The star of this guesthouse is definitely the breakfast. Served in a spacious, naturally lit conservatory with views of the gardens outside (you can even spot squirrels playing). One could just sit here and have tea for the whole day.
Breakfast is a sumptuous affair featuring toasts, scrambled eggs, various kinds of breads and pastries, grilled mushrooms and sausages. I love the croissants and pain au chocolat here. The ingredients were sourced from local traders.
They also served you freshly made toasts to go with the variety of marmalade and jams provided.
Overall, I had an enjoyable stay at the Glenlyn, I wished I had more time at the bed and breakfast and explore Finchley. The breakfast and ambience was simply awesome.
