Taking over the premises of the former Espuma Lab is Mr Fish and Chips at Cafe Wok Inn, which specializes in the golden battered Fish & Chips as well as other local versions of western food like Beef Stew.
The set meals here cost about around 13.90 SGD with a choice of drink, a slice of garlic bread and mushroom soup and Battered Fish
But this is what you are here for, the fish and chips. The portion is admittedly smaller than your usual food court serving which normally comes with two fillets rather than one. Thankfully, the battered fish is quite decent. The crust is crispy but firmer than average. The sides are unmemorable but I am satisfied with the battered fish.
The battered fish is served with malt vinegar rather than tartare sauce which local palate is more used to. The malt vinegar pairing seems to bring more focus to the fish encrusted within the batter, it accentuates the fish's sweetness compared to a tartare sauce pairing which often overpowers the fish. Overall, not bad. The corner is a nice and casual place to chill, have a set meal without breaking the bank. Seems rather popular with students too.
