A new food outlet just opened at Millenia Walk recently, adding to the list of Japanese eateries of the mall's Nihon Food Street. This time round, it Tengawa, specializing in "Hokkaido White Curry". This variation of Japanese curry is made with cream and fresh milk thus the white colour of the curry.
One of the complimentary bites at Tengawa is their pickled mixed vegetables. Not too acidic and sour and a little sweet with lots of crunch.
Each of the three sets include miso soup and Truffled Chawanmushi
I was slightly discouraged at the sight of yet another "truffle" overkill. Thankfully, this combination was somewhat okay, thought the truffle flavour adds a nice touch to the chawanmushi.
This is what I am really here for: the White Curry. While heard of soup curry from Hokkaido before, this is new to me. The white curry resembled a thick, creamy stew. It is mildly spicy, tasty and fragrant. The rice however, could have been better, it was somewhat on the lumpy side. The ebi fry however was awesome. They were crispy, fresh and crunchy.
It was an okay meal. Whether it is worth the 16.80++ SGD, I doubt so unless you really like Japanese style curry and wanted something milky and less heavy than the typical brown Japanese curries.
