Craving for some dim sum, the4Moose had a mini gathering at Swee Choon Dim Sum Restaurant. This is a real gem indeed. The restaurant opens from evening to morning which is great if you are hungry during the wee hours and desperately looking for something delicious to eat. The restaurant does not accept any reservations, but getting a seat on the spot was a breeze while we were there.

The Steamed BBQ Pork Buns of Swee Choon was decent with its sweet gravy and tender piece of char siew pork. The skin was fluffy and slightly chewy too.

When we spotted the Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun (2.70 SGD for 3) on the menu, we knew we just have to try it. Piercing open the pearly white skin of the bun, out comes a semifluid of rich sweet custard. Unlike the one in Victor’s Kitchen, this is not as fluid and not as buttery (to my liking). In my humble opinion, I enjoyed Swee Choon’s Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun more.

There are some exotic dim sum items such as the Prawn and Banana Fritter (2.60 SGD for 2). It was an odd combination but still a rather appetizing crispy snack. Mu Yao and Vinleon however were unimpressed.

The Gyozas were rather good, crispy, nicely fried with generous fillings while the Peking Dumplings (3.30 SGD for 4) were ordinary.

The Mango Pudding was satisfactory and much better than the one I had at Lao Beijing.

In general, the dim sum at Swee Choon were rather delicious and above average. The six of us spent about 16 SGD each. The restaurant /oes not accept reservations, but getting a seat was a breeze.
